WEB SERVICES - Using Web Services the Microsoft Dynamics NAV business logic can now be made available via the web. This allows for integration with mobile devices, web sites and third party applications.
Using Employee Portal the role tailored approach of Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 can be published using SharePoint technology. This is the result of the integration of three technologies: Microsoft Dynamics NAV, Microsoft SQL Server (with Microsoft Excel) and Microsoft SharePoint.
SharePoint, which is a collection of products and software elements, has at its core a number of functional areas including document collaboration, portals for displaying products, data searching, content management, workflow management and business intelligence.
The result of the integration of these products is a user interface in SharePoint with Dynamics NAV data and functions with business intelligence graphs and data. The user interface is constructed from Web Parts (an integrated set of controls for creating Web sites) which can be configured in Dynamics NAV and published to the portal. By utilising the web parts Dynamics NAV can be used from the SharePoint interface. The available functionality is setup from within NAV which controls the business logic and allows the user to view graphs or drill down on data. Because of this, there is no duplication of development effort. The user’s role and corresponding rights are setup from within NAV and can be specified down to the individual field level. Security is handled by Active Directory. The only requirements for this access are Employee Portal to Dynamics NAV and SharePoint.
